A vignette is a brief but powerful scene. A good vignette leaves you wanting more.
…. from vocabulary.com
Rather than choosing one city for the letter V, I’ve selected a vignette from 3 different cities. No story, no commentary, just 3 vintage photos that I hope are good enough to speak for themselves.
2000 Vancouver, Canada
1997 Versailles, France
1997 Venice, Italy
Vancouver is a dream destination for me! And that bridge … did you go over it???
LikeLike
Yes I did – actually we went back and forth a few times.
Vancouver and Vancouver Island are both wonderful destinations. I recommend it!

I like your 3 “V” locations in vignette form, Joanne. Versailles ceiling is simple ethereal, Vancouver bridge amazing and frightening a little and Venice would be so romantic to share with someone special.
p.s. My good single friend, Anna, joined all kinds of dating sites when I did 4 years ago. She stuck with it and she got engaged and is moving away. So, I joined again. . . shh-h!

I am never too old but I kept wishing for a referral date from a brother or friend, Joanne. There are only a few hopeful people who wish like I do for the accidental party where our eyes meet “across a crowded room” like in South Pacific. 🙂

Yeaaaaah – I think that only happens in the movies, right?
Mine was an accidental meeting through friends. Does that count?
So many of my friends and family have met their partner through on-line dating. They seem almost embarrassed by it, but wow – how they found each other doesn’t really matter.

Great pics! I’m going to be biased but the Venice one is my favourite 🙂 Not sure I’d be able to cope with the Capitano Bridge – scary!

I really must go back to Venice someday – hopefully to enjoy myself. Unfortunately I didn’t feel well and just wanted to lay down somewhere.
I need to make up for it.

What is that beautiful place in Versailles? Stunning!

That is inside the Palace of Versailles compliments of King Louis XIV.
It’s one of the rare things I’ve visited twice. It’s a short train ride from Paris … which I’ve already established is the Centre of the Universe.
{sigh} I think I might have been French in another lifetime 🙂

I think my former boss feels the same way about Paris…he’s made several trips over.

Lovely choices for V! We use “vignette” for so many types of art, it’s important to remember how loosely we throw the word around! 🙂

It’s a funny word. I’m actually quite fond of it.

Can’t believe you’ve already gotten to V. Good idea, about vignette. They have a similar bridge here, on the Fundy Parkway … on a much smaller scale, though. I’ve never been to any of these places, but my husband could easily do an A-Z thing like you’ve done here.

Thank you … but I’m quickly running out of runway!! That’s ok though. I’m happy to have made it this far 🙂

I’ve never been any of those places.. Yesterday I went out and stole those flowers that we talked about. Hopefully the bed in our backyard will be blue next spring.

I don’t call it stealing. I prefer to think of it as ‘liberating’ them 🙂
I’m sure they’ll grow like – well, weeds 🙂

That’s right: I liberated them from their sad lives where they were anonymous squills among the other squills.
I’ve given them the chance to new lives next spring, as pioneer Blue Stars in the flower bed in ‘our’ backyard!

You have no idea of the big smile this gave me!! 🙂

Depending on the weather I might even do further rescue attempts this weekend. I found some suitable spots for new pioneers yesterday. Among some bushes in the backyard where the earth is semi dry. They seem to be into that kind of environment.
I’ll keep you updated on my heroic efforts.
Worry thou shalt not for the squills! Come next spring and they shall resurrect as magnificent Blue Stars!
