October Life

What a whirlwind of a month!  I give October top marks for a month of great weather allowing plenty of outdoor adventure.

Overall, the unseasonably warm fall has meant that we are about 3 weeks behind changing leaf colour and trees shedding their foliage.  We are in the final days of the month and the trees surrounding our backyard are still mostly green.

These are the sights of October in my corner of the world.  Click on any photo to enlarge.

Changing Seasons is a monthly photo feature hosted by Max at Cardinal Guzman.

After a 3 year run, Max has decided that Changing Seasons will come to an end this December.

As I mentioned in my September post, for the remainder of the year, I will also be including a photo from each of the prior years of this challenge.

    • Thanks Annie. Where I’m from in the North, we don’t get colours like this either. Seeing autumn in the south (in Canadian terms 😉) has been a treat for me. I’ve had a fascination with the trees ever since!

  1. INCREDIBLE photos. Your world looks a lot like mine now, here in the Boston area. Our leaves turned late, also, and the colors were astounding until we got that huge wind and rain storm Sunday night into Monday. Now many of the trees are bare. Sad.

  2. This is one gorgeous part of the world. 🙂 I wonder how long we are going to notice such phenomena before it hits us that there is no going back. Waiting for the imminent desert over here…

  3. Beautiful colors, Joanne. It’s far prettier in your corner of Canada than it is here. It turned colder last week…the end of biking, the feel of winter. Glad you enjoyed October to the max.

  4. Those colors are beautiful Joanne! The colors are finally turning nice here. I was able to get out some between the rain and the cold front blowing in. I’m hoping to have some nice days before it all turns to brown! 🙂

    • The thing I’ve learned about the shoulder seasons is that the idea of a ‘nice’ day needs to be loosely applied. Even gray, uninspiring days can make for a great outing. Unfortunately yesterday wasn’t one of them. Not only were the winds gale force, but we got rained on – a lot. That wasn’t supposed to happen!!

  7. It’s been a weird weather year, hasn’t it? Gorgeous photos, Joanne. Some are totally green and others such a bright yellow. Beautiful All. I’m so glad you had the beautiful month to enjoy the changing season. 🙂

  8. Lovely October images Jo. And there is some autumnal colour, just not as much as previous years looking at those photos. We seem to have gone from green to brown. The couple of storms we have had recently have blown most of the leaves off before they had chance to turn colour. I hope you don’t have a bad winter. Who can tell these days?

  9. Beautiful! We’ve been a bit cheated on autumn here. It seems to have hurried up and I’m hoping one of these days will be warm and sunny before it’s all fallen down completely!
Thanks for sharing your pretty pictures! It’s a gift you’ve provided 🙂

  10. I know in the dead of winter, people might be envious of the Florida green…but we do miss out on fall foliage. Sure we’ll get a stray peek once in awhile but never the beauty that takes your breath away.

  11. Great images commemorating what, for me, is the very best season of the year. As an added bonus, your corner of the world is my corner of the world. It’s wonderful to see gorgeous and familiar sights.

  12. Excellent photos – especially the 3rd one, that’s my favorite. I love this time of year (although Spring is my favorite) because there is something magical about hiking through the leaves and watching the trees undress for winter. Glad you’re having an extended season!

  13. Lovely collection making me oh so nostalgic for Fall. I had hoped we would be in the U.S. to experience it, but when we left mid Sept. after a 6 week visit, still no signs of Autumn. Oh well…maybe next year.

I partcularly love the lake photos and the wooden walkway. Blissful.

    • This is by far my favourite time of year, Peta, and it’s been extra special because it’s been lingering. That’s a rarity and I’m trying to squeeze every minute of enjoyment out of it!!

    • I am up very early this Sunday morning to meet a blogger I’ve never met before for a hike on the Bruce Trail.
The temperature right now is hovering around the freezing mark and after a restless night, I’m wondering what on earth I was thinking 😉

I do know what you mean though. This time of year begs to be enjoyed outdoors!!

    • Thanks Angela. Here I was complaining a few weeks ago about how flat and unremarkable the colours have been this fall – and yet, when I put this post together, my photos seemed to tell a different story 😃

      • Here in Southern California, where we don’t get much of the fall colors so consider yourself lucky! We were in Washington, D. C. last week and hoped to catch some of that but the fall colors are late this year so we got nothing… 🙁

        • Yes, timing it everything and with such a warm fall, the colours are much later than usual.
Some people find autumn really depressing because everything is decaying and winter is coming, but I prefer to enjoy it for its beautiful display.

  14. enjoyed your photos – and liked the bike near the bridge one the most – but the fall colors are with me too. and October gets high marks for me for many reasons – such a delightful month 🙂

    • As the end of the month barrels down on us, I’m feeling a little wistful. It’s been one of the best and I guess it’s normal to feel a bit sad when a good time comes to an end.
However, I have lots to look forward in November, so I’ll keep my chin up 🙂

  15. Beautiful. My favorite shots are the two with the paths between the trees. I always like the feel of invitation and travel that those type of shots give. We’re behind on color here, too, although the change has begun. Hopefully all the leaves won’t blow off the trees before we can enjoy them. 🙂

  16. Same thing with the leaves down here Joanne 😞 There are spots of color but nothing like the usual brilliant color. Judging by your beautiful images you are a little bit ahead of us, at least some leaves are on the ground 😀 Just remember there is no global warming or as President Donald McCheeto says “its a Chinese hoax”

  17. That’s a lot of green still! Here, autumn colours are almost over and the winter has officially arrived. By the way, I like the idea of including a photo from the previous year. I think I can see the difference, but I might be only imagining it.
