What a whirlwind of a month! I give October top marks for a month of great weather allowing plenty of outdoor adventure.
Overall, the unseasonably warm fall has meant that we are about 3 weeks behind changing leaf colour and trees shedding their foliage. We are in the final days of the month and the trees surrounding our backyard are still mostly green.

Thanks Annie. Where I’m from in the North, we don’t get colours like this either. Seeing autumn in the south (in Canadian terms 😉) has been a treat for me. I’ve had a fascination with the trees ever since!

This time I made a point of getting back on my bike a few weeks after the accident while my collarbone was still broken. It was obviously very uncomfortable, but that whole ‘getting back up on the horse’ really does work.
I’m loving my trail bike and so glad I bought one in the spring. Trail riding is so much nicer than road riding – especially anywhere near here.

INCREDIBLE photos. Your world looks a lot like mine now, here in the Boston area. Our leaves turned late, also, and the colors were astounding until we got that huge wind and rain storm Sunday night into Monday. Now many of the trees are bare. Sad.

Yeah, the winds have been wrecking havoc here too and there are now more bare trees than not 😕 Can’t complain though – we had a good run of weather this autumn.

For sure. 70 degrees here on November 3rd, when it’s usually at least 20 degrees colder. I’m off for my second walk! ;-0

Those colors are beautiful Joanne! The colors are finally turning nice here. I was able to get out some between the rain and the cold front blowing in. I’m hoping to have some nice days before it all turns to brown! 🙂

The thing I’ve learned about the shoulder seasons is that the idea of a ‘nice’ day needs to be loosely applied. Even gray, uninspiring days can make for a great outing. Unfortunately yesterday wasn’t one of them. Not only were the winds gale force, but we got rained on – a lot. That wasn’t supposed to happen!!

Just came home from a weekend up north. Finally, some colour! This autumn has definitely brought some unusual weather for this time of year. Won’t be long before the snow flies⛸🎿🏒⛷☃️❄️

Lovely October images Jo. And there is some autumnal colour, just not as much as previous years looking at those photos. We seem to have gone from green to brown. The couple of storms we have had recently have blown most of the leaves off before they had chance to turn colour. I hope you don’t have a bad winter. Who can tell these days?

Sadly, the forecast here is for a heavy snow winter. The Great Lakes are too warm which will delay freezing – if they in fact will freeze at all. Unfortunately that translates into a lot of precipitation … i.e. snow. NOT my favourite 😕

It’s beautiful there! I like the lamp in the first image too.
Our Ginko is one the last to turn and shed its leaves on our street. I noticed its green color is duller so change is coming.

We’ve had heavy winds the past couple of days, so the trees are looking pretty bare in many areas. The colder weather is now upon us 😕

We have a poem in Afrikaans that states October is the most beautiful month (probably because it is spring here in South Africa) but obviously that is true in Canada as well!

I would have to agree that October is the most beautiful month too. Some years it’s too wet and cold to really enjoy, but this year has been a treat 🙂🍁🌿

Beautiful! We’ve been a bit cheated on autumn here. It seems to have hurried up and I’m hoping one of these days will be warm and sunny before it’s all fallen down completely!

I know in the dead of winter, people might be envious of the Florida green…but we do miss out on fall foliage. Sure we’ll get a stray peek once in awhile but never the beauty that takes your breath away.

If I was a better photographer, I would have captured some of these large fish actually in flight as they navigated the “steps”. It was fascinating to watch.

I wanted to capture salmon leaping upstream in Ludlow, but I never got to see one!

Oh, we saw huge pools of fish resting at each step along the river. We even caught several of them fighting their way up stream. What I didn’t see was the famed churning water of fish grandly leaping into the air to clear the step.
We were there towards the end of the migration, and I think these latecomers were just too tired. It was sad to see so many of them who simply couldn’t finish the journey and were dead on the shores.

They do seem to make such hard work for themselves. On the river in Ludlow they created salmon runs through the weirs so they no longer had to leap up them.

In some places, the opposite has happened here.
Some invasive species have been found in the Great Lakes. Certain waterways that spill into the Great Lakes have had ‘steps’ introduced to them to help prevent these invasive species from migrating further upstream.

I am starting to appreciate how interesting my little corner really is. Although I live in the biggest city in Canada, access to nature is not hard. Even within the heart of the city, it’s easy to “lose” the hustle.

Lovely collection making me oh so nostalgic for Fall. I had hoped we would be in the U.S. to experience it, but when we left mid Sept. after a 6 week visit, still no signs of Autumn. Oh well…maybe next year.
I partcularly love the lake photos and the wooden walkway. Blissful.

One of the reasons why I really wanted a trail bike was so I could take better advantage of the shoulder seasons and even the winter if possible.
I’m hoping this winter is mostly snow-free like the last one, but rumour has it that will be an ugly one. Sigh. The possibility of more outdoor cycling may be coming to an end until the spring.

Hope it will be a mild winter for you. My trouble is I don’t go out often enough on the bike, and when I do I ache for days afterwards 😕.

If you are really serious about cycling more, perhaps you might want to consider having your bike fit corrected. If your bike hasn’t been properly adjusted for you, each ride will feel miserable. Even a small adjustment in your seat can make a world of difference.

I am up very early this Sunday morning to meet a blogger I’ve never met before for a hike on the Bruce Trail.
The temperature right now is hovering around the freezing mark and after a restless night, I’m wondering what on earth I was thinking 😉

Here in Southern California, where we don’t get much of the fall colors so consider yourself lucky! We were in Washington, D. C. last week and hoped to catch some of that but the fall colors are late this year so we got nothing… 🙁

Yes, timing it everything and with such a warm fall, the colours are much later than usual.
Some people find autumn really depressing because everything is decaying and winter is coming, but I prefer to enjoy it for its beautiful display.

This is my favourite time of year and Mother Nature has provided us with a long, slow fall to enjoy – and I have!!
That particular bike ride was one of my favourites of the entire year! Not only do I love the photo, I love the memories of that day!

As the end of the month barrels down on us, I’m feeling a little wistful. It’s been one of the best and I guess it’s normal to feel a bit sad when a good time comes to an end.
However, I have lots to look forward in November, so I’ll keep my chin up 🙂

Beautiful. My favorite shots are the two with the paths between the trees. I always like the feel of invitation and travel that those type of shots give. We’re behind on color here, too, although the change has begun. Hopefully all the leaves won’t blow off the trees before we can enjoy them. 🙂

Same thing with the leaves down here Joanne 😞 There are spots of color but nothing like the usual brilliant color. Judging by your beautiful images you are a little bit ahead of us, at least some leaves are on the ground 😀 Just remember there is no global warming or as President Donald McCheeto says “its a Chinese hoax”
