One of our first tasks when we arrived in Newfoundland was to find a liquor store.
Priorities must be taken care of as soon as possible and high on the list were ‘refreshments’. Luckily for us we found one beside the grocery store near our apartment.
What we discovered there was that even a trip to the liquor store could entertain us with the originality and sense of humour of the Newfoundlander.
Belly up to the bar and let me pour you a drink.
Sorry I can’t help you with your selection since I didn’t imbibe in any. My poison-of-choice leans in other directions right now … but help yourself!
Thank you Joanne, I’m glad you liked the dish. It is indeed very easy to assemble and doesn’t require many ingredients.Organic wine

Funny and interesting wine labels. I’m sure when you give them as gifts they would surely baffle and amuse the receivers.

Oooo – that would have been a clever idea to give them as gifts. Sadly, we weren’t buying any 🙂

Haha – I’ve just finished researching the foods of Roumania to assemble a menu for my evening with Dracula. It begins with an ancient Roumanian wine. Other recipes will follow. Roumania is a bit further afield than Newfoundland (I did find the wine in Ontario, though…), but if you are interested, here is the link – https://cookupastory.wordpress.com/2019/09/03/roumanian-wine/

Funny labels. But I probably wouldn’t have bought a fruit wine either.

Ha!Ha! I love a good, creative name. We have many regional craft breweries and some of their names are quite hilarious. I’m feeling inspired to a future round-up of some of them. It would make for a good laugh. 🙂

While I do enjoy an occasional glass of wine, it’s not something I would naturally pick … but these labels are cute!

I’m going for Funky Puffin as I love rhubarb, but I must admit I would be happy to taste all of them – I do like a fruity wine and especially when it is proper alcoholic too 😉

Three Sheets to the Wind made me laugh out loud. That would be my favourite. My general rule, however, is to avoid wine with funky labels as it often indicates a less than stellar content as if they’re trying to over compensate.

Personally I find fruit-based wines tend to fall in that category anyway (notwithstanding the grape of course) but I may just be a wine snob 😉

This is what I get for reading posts on my phone. I should have zoomed in on the photos. I’m with you on the fruit wine. Although, to be fair, I don’t think I’ve ever tried one other than the grape variety so maybe I shouldn’t judge.

I’m guessing its too cool for grape there? What hilarious ways to promote the local wines!

Yeah, I think it would be pretty hard to grow grapes there … so might as well use what you have!

Great names and photos — nothing stronger than wine in Newfoundland? I only have 1 Newfoundland story. When last I shared with a newfie, (no idea how to spell it) she got a little pissed and thought I was making fun of the place… You should know I liked the place – it was only my own ignorance that made it hard to “adjust.” https://kieranbullshit.com/2018/11/27/the-flight-to-fredericton/

I can’t help but laugh because you were no where near the most easterly point of Canada. You’d have to go another 1325 km (823 miles) further east to get to St John’s Newfoundland.
I can imagine that arriving in Frederickton from Phoenix in November would have been a shocker … and I’m pretty sure your flimsy little ‘winter’ coat wasn’t very helpful once you did rescue it from your luggage.
THIS is why I love to travel – those funny little cultural shock moments.
Looking for something stronger than wine? I bought an excellent Iceberg Vodka and Seaweed Gin. My poison of choice is a martini – extra dry, shaken, with olives please.

Kind of reminds me of all the crazy brands of marijuana you can buy. Maybe this is the alcohol industry’s way of competing.

I suspect it might be the other way around. The wine industry in particular has always been a little creative with their labelling. The cannabis industry is relatively new to the game and up to challenge 😉

– and I had a dry June except for when I visited my sister’s MIL-
Sambuca baby! Mmmmm
And need to do post about it soon –
And so what is your drink of choice right now? Let me guess….
Vodka?

Yes. You guessed correctly. Preferably in an extra dry martini 🙂
Although after a long hot hike or bike ride, there’s nothing quite like a very cold beer.

the MIL offered amaretto or sambuca — and glad I chose the samba because it was so refreshing with espresso – (had a second shot ha) and we talked about how some folks serve it with three coffee beans.

For us – and we add a nice meaty sauce a DNS’s it is meets the pasta need.
Just FYI
Oh and a really good dough can be made with cassava root flour and almond flour –
For pizza and biscuits –
We got off sugar and carbs and wheat for gut and immune system health and feel quite satisfied

I understand the need of many people to find substitutes for health reasons but in my opinion there will never be a zucchini recipe in the world that can compare to plate of real pasta … and I’m not really a big fan of pasta. Yeah, I know. A terrible thing for an Italian to say .. although maybe it’s because I’m not a big fan of zucchini, except in a cake with cream cheese icing 😉

Hahah – never had zucchini in cake – – was t- I have had zucchini bread – and thanks for letting me chime in here.
I never would have imagined those zucchini noodles are so great – but they are…
and my hubs reminds people that nobody ever eats noodles plain – they butter them up – salt em up – sauce em up – and the long strands of a veggie in the shape of noodles – with the right sauce – is surprisingly good.
